Teresa Ribera has dedicated her career to making the world a better place for future generations. As the current Minister for Ecological Transition in Spain, Ribera has been a leading figure in environmental policy not only in her home country, but also on a global scale. She has been at the forefront of the fight against climate change and has played a crucial role in implementing sustainable practices and promoting renewable energy sources.
Born in Madrid in 1969, Ribera’s passion for the environment started at a young age. After obtaining a degree in Law and a Master’s in International Law, she went on to work for various organizations focusing on environmental issues. In 2008, she was appointed Director-General for Climate Change at the Spanish Ministry of Environment, where she made significant contributions to the country’s climate change strategy. This ultimately led her to become the first woman to hold the position of Director of the Spanish Office for Climate Change in 2011.
Ribera’s commitment and expertise in environmental policy gained international recognition when she was appointed as Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2018. In this role, she has been instrumental in bringing countries together to tackle the global climate crisis and has played a key role in the negotiations for the Paris Agreement.
